An Analysis of the English Translation of Words with Chinese Characteristics in Political Documents from the Perspective of Translational Writing Studies——A Case Study of the English Version of Xi Jinping:The Governance of China
The huge differences between Chinese and English,coupled with different social and cultural backgrounds,make it one of the difficult problems to correctly translate words with Chinese characteristics in political documents into English.Translation methods and strategies represented by"literal translation and free translation"as well as"foreignization and domestication"have failed to integrate language with culture in translation practice."Translational Writing Studies"have sorted out traditional translation principles and methods,then proposes new classification of"literal translation,free translation,and domesticating translation",gives new insights into"free translation",and unifies the operation of language and culture in translation.The integration can simplify translation principles and provide reasonable explanation for multiple translations derived from the same original text,which helps translators have a better understanding of the translation effect and enables them to employ suitable translation strategies.
