A Comparison Study on the Ancient and Modern Usage and Historical Change Types on Japanese Compound Verbs Whose Latter Part Makes a Conjugate
This paper clarifies the number of modern Japanese compound verbs and ancient Japanese compound verbs whose latter part makes a correspondence,and makes the ancient and modern comparison around the basic characteristics such as number,frequency of use,intransitivity or transitivity and overlapping of high-frequency words,and classifies the latter part which makes a conjugate into six types based on the historical change of frequency of use:V2 which is more frequently used in ancient Japanese;V2 which is more frequently used in modern Japanese;V2 in which one side is used more frequently while the other side is declining in modern Japanese;V2 whose frequency has not changed significantly since ancient times;new V2;completely disappeared V2.
