The Current Status of International Regulation of Gene-Edited Animal Foods and Its Implications on China
The regulatory models of gene-edited animal foods in various countries and regions worldwide are mainly categorized into strict,deregulatory,and semi-deregulatory models.The differences in regulatory models have resulted in conflicts between marketing authorizations and labeling requirements.Moreover,some regulatory models have problems with regulation that are not proportionate to the risks.These issues are of urgent importance for China.China,as a country adopting a strict regulatory model,needs to build a regulatory system in response to the risks of gene-edited animal foods as soon as possible,strengthen international cooperation with various countries and regions on the regulation of gene-edited animal foods,leading the enaction of uniform international law governing gene-edited animal food.
