An Analysis on Ethnic Affairs Management of Governor of Sichuan in Ming Dynasty
During the Jingtai period, governors of Sichuan were in charge of military and civilian affairs of the province, and it was also their important duty to deal with the ethnic affairs within the jurisdiction.Under the influence of the Ming central policy, governors of Sichuan adopted the governance strategy of"carrot-stick policy"to all ethnic groups.Their specific management measures mainly include the formulation of prohibitions and strengthening the construction of military facilities. In the meanwhile, they had to deal with the daily affairs of paying tribute and disputes between chiefdoms over land and attacks.Although the governor's management is conducive to the stability of regional society and ethnic relations to a certain extent, many problems in the management of ethnic affairs also appeared due to the mistakes of ethnic policies and the uneven governing ability of the governor.
