Referential Expressions and Topics Continuity Strategies in Narrations——A Comparative Study on Chinese as the First Language and German as a Foreign Language
In Chinese and German languages, different referential forms and positions of topics will determine the different coding methods of new and old information contained in narrative texts composed of the two languages. With the help of the theory of cognitive reference point and the interpretation of structural schema, this paper discusses how to use referential expression and positional movement to deal with information transmission based on the differences between two languages,so as to realize the topic structural coherence and dynamic development of narrative texts.Through the empirical study,it can be observed that German dominates more possibilities in topic selection than Chinese and pays attention to maintaining syntactic integrity, and that clauses are more connected with conjunctions. However, when constructing a Chinese discourse,it is more inclined to focus on one topic and content expression conforms to the principle of language economy.
