ANALYSIS OF TRANSVERSE DEFECTS ON THE EDGE OF HOT-ROLLED STEEL PLATES
Optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy were used to analyze the transverse defects on the edges of hot-rolled steel plates, and the position and morphology of the defects before and after acid pickling were compared with those of the normal areas in plan and cross sections, the elements at the defects were analyzed using an energy spec-trometer.The results show that the transverse defects are mainly caused by partial fragmentation and peeling of the iron ox-ide scale, most of which exist on the surface of the iron oxide scale. The iron oxide scale is not completely peeled off,and an unbroken part at the connection between the oxide scale layer and the matrix is still retained, the oxide scale structure in the defect area is mainly composed of a large amount of ferrous oxide and a small amount of pre eutectoid ferric oxide structure, which belongs to the easily broken oxide scale phase.
