INCLUSIONS DISTRIBUTION IN IF STEEL TUNDISH SAMPLE BY BARREL-TYPE SAMPLER
The cleanliness control of IF steel is crucial to product quality. The characteristics of the number, size and distribution of inclusions in the tundish are of concern to researchers. But the uneven distribution of inclusions in the sam-ples extracted by the sampler affects the accuracy of cleanliness determination in the steel. For this purpose,in this paper the author sampled IF steel sample in tundish of a domestic steel plant by using barrel-type sampler to detect inclusions. The types and quantities of inclusions at different heights of steel samples were statistically compared, and the changes of inclu-sions at sample heights were analyzed. The results showed that the oxygen content in the samples gradually increased with sample height, and oxide inclusions also increased with height;the main inclusions in the steel samples were mainly Al2O3 and Al-Ti composite inclusions, with a diameter basically below 20 μm,and the distribution at different heights showed a trend of increasing density with height. The number of inclusions larger than 20 μm was relatively small and existed in the upper part of the sample, showing a tendency to float and remove. There were slag inclusions in the upper part of the sample.
