The term of"Three Jiao"was first mentioned in Huang Di Nei Jing,which has a name and with a form,being the pathway for the water and grain.On this basis,in Nan Jing,it was said that Three Jiao is a special envoy of the Yuan Qi,which laid the foundation for the doctrine of the Life Gate(Ming Men)in the later generations.Liu Yuanyuan,one of the four great masters of Jin Yuan Period,proposed that the Xiang Fire of the Life Gate goes in Three Jiao,pointing out that Three Jiao is the path of the Xiang Fire.It laid the theoretical foundation for"Three Jiao is the operation path of water and fire"in later times.The research of"Three Jiao"in Qing Dy-nasty went further,Huang Yuanyu thought in his Yi Qi Zhou Liu Theory that the Yuan Qi's activity,namely,going up and down as well as going in and out,takes place in Three Jiao.Tang Rongchuan and Zhang Xichun put forward the idea of materialization of Three Jiao,i.e.,Three Jiao is rooted in Life Gate,is just based on the theory.The Three Jiao is not only the road for the operation of water and grains,the special ambassador of the Yuan Qi,and the road for the operation of water and fire,but it can even be understood as the gap,space,and channel in the human body,communicating with all the organs of the whole body,and promoting the Qi,the Xiang Fire,the metabolism of the water and the operation of the blood,and even the metabolism and the operation of the solid substances.If Qi is stag-nant and Xiang Fire is weak in the body,the balance of Qi movement would be broken,the balance between Dryness and Dampness would be changed,the operation of the Qi in the Middle Jiao would be out of order,the clear Qi would not be elevated and the turbid Qi would not be lowered,and then Phlegm and Dampness would be generated within the body and blood stasis would produce within the body,which would bring about a lot of metabolic abnormalities as well as cardio-cerebral and cerebral vascular diseases.
