Traditional Chinese Medicine Regulating Modulation of Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress to Ameliorate Diabetic Retinopathy
Endoplasmic reticulum stress is involved in the development of diabetic retinopathy(DR)by regulating angiogenesis and in-hibiting neurodegeneration, and the regulation of endoplasmic reticulum stress has become a new target for the prevention and treatment of DR.By inhibiting endoplasmic reticulum stress, traditional Chinese medicine can reduce apoptosis, attenuate inflammation, and inhibit oxidative stress, thus improving neurodegeneration,blood-retinal barrier(BRB)disruption, and neovascularization in the process of DR development, and protecting the retina. However,at present, the regulatory effect of TCM on endoplasmic reticulum stress and the mechanism of its influence on the development of DR have not been clarified, and most of the existing studies remain at the stage of ani-mal experiments and in vitro cellular experiments,so it is urgent to validate its efficacy in large-scale and high-quality clinical trials, and more in-depth molecular biology and pharmacology studies should be conducted to clarify its mechanism of action,so that it can provide a more rationale for the prevention and treatment of DR.
