Progresses of substrate material in constructed wetland and its pollutant removal mechanism
Substrate plays a crucial role in constructed wetlands and significantly influences their operational efficiency. The removal mechanisms of both traditional and emerging pollutants by substrates were summarized. The status quo of substrate research and development was detailed across three key areas:the stratification and combination of substrates, the innovation of new substrate materials, and the modification of substrates. It is pointed out that future research on substrates should focus on optimizing the substrate stratification and combination, enhancing the development and modification of substrate materials, promoting substrate regeneration and resource utilization, and prioritizing the treatment efficacy of constructed wetlands for new pollutants.Targeted substrate materials should be developed accordingly.
