Using data from the 2020 China Rural Revitalization Survey(CRRS),this article examines the impact of non-farm employment on the income level and income distribution of rural residents using income simulation based on the en-dogenous switching regression model. The findings show that non-farm employment increases the per capita net household income of participating non-farm employment farm households from RMB 13,588 to RMB 18,275,and the per capita net house-hold income of all farm households from RMB 14,164 to RMB 17,890;at the same time,non-farm employment has also played a positive role in im-proving the distribution of rural residents'income, reducing the Gini coefficient of per capita net income from 0.4610 to 0.4508,a conclusion cor-roborated by the results of the National Bureau of Statistics'Household Sample Survey.Based on the above conclusions,China should accelerate the process of new urbanization, continue to promote the transfer of rural labor, and actively exert its dual welfare-improving effects of raising the income level of rural residents and narrowing the income gap among them,to contribute to the realization of common prosperity based on building a moderately prosperous society in all respects.
