In the process of promoting the construction of rural revitalization, the digital econ-omy has profoundly changed residents'consumption mode, consumption behavior and consumption con-tent,and has become an important driving force to promote rural consumption growth and narrow the urban-rural consumption gap.Based on the panel data of 201 prefecture-level cities, this article utilizes the fixed effect model and spatial Durbin model to test the effect of digital economy on the consumption gap between urban and rural residents. The results show that:with the development of digital economy, the consumption gap between urban and rural residents has shrunk, indicating that the digital economy plays a positive role in balancing urban and rural consumption;the impact of digital economy on the consumption gap between urban and rural residents shows obvious regional heteroge-neity and spatial dependence. This effect is more prominent in the central and western regions and is accompanied by obvious spatial spillover and diffu-sion effects;compared with urban residents, the digital economy has a stronger effect on the promo-tion of the consumption level of rural residents, and a more obvious empowering effect on the expansion of rural consumption. Therefore, vigorously develo-ping the digital economy and utilizing the dividends of digital technology to promote the rural revitaliza-tion strategy is an effective way to narrow the con-sumption gap between urban and rural areas.
