This article takes the construction of data open platforms by local governments as a quasi-natural experiment. It uses data on rent-see-king expenditures of Chinese A-share listed com-panies from 2009 to 2022 to construct a staggered difference-in-differences model, examining how the opening of public data resources affects enter-prise rent-seeking behavior.Empirical findings suggest that the opening of public data resources significantly reduces enterprise rent-seeking expenditures.Heterogeneity tests reveal that the opening of public data platforms has a more pro-nounced inhibitory effect on rent-seeking behavior in regions with lower levels of marketization and market trust.Additionally,it exerts a stronger de-terrent effect on rent-seeking behavior in companies with lower quality of internal control and poorer accounting stability. Therefore, this article suggests that the government should advance the construction of data open platforms, enhance regu-latory oversight to curb corporate rent-seeking,increase support for areas with low marketization and trust, reduce the space for rent-seeking,and foster the healthy development of the economy.
