Numerical Simulations of Hydrodynamics of Paint Droplet Using Airless Rotary Sprayer in Square Duct Coating Process
Having Fluent-EDEM software adopted to simulate the flow process of airless centrifugal spray-ing's paint droplets in a square pipe was implemented,including making use of the RNG k-ε model simu-late the gas flow induced by the rotation of the spray gun in a square pipe and the JKR contact model em-ployed to track movement of the paint droplets,and having virtual simulation test of accumulation angle used to predict the contact surface energy between the paint droplet and the horizontal wall.The numerical simulation results show that,with the increase of the rotation speed of the spray gun,the droplet velocity and collision force of the coating becomes increased,and the droplet number along the length of the square pipe wall gets higher in the middle and lower at both ends.In addition,a dimensionless uniformity coeffi-cient based on the distribution of the number of droplets along the wall length was proposed.The results show that,the dimensionless uniformity coefficient of droplets decreases with the decrease of the rotation speed of the spray gun.The spray gunⅡcan increase the number of small holes in the jet,which can re-duce the dimensionless uniformity coefficient of droplets on the wall and improve the uniformity of droplet distribution.
