Assessing the Microeconomic Effects of Agricultural Products Quality Regulation Policies in China:Evidence from"Sanpinyibiao"Quality Certification
"Sanpinyibiao"quality certifications,which including green,organic,standard qualified and geographical indication agricultural products quality certifications,is a systematic quality certification of safe and high-quality public brand of agricultural products oriented by government.As an important part of the government product quality regulation system,"Sanpinyibiao"is a unique multi-level quality regulation from the bottom to the high line of quality.In this paper,we used a panel data of 190 agricultural and food manufacturing firms in China from 2009 to 2022 and conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the microeconomic effects of agricultural product quality regulation policies in China.We try to answer the question that whether policies can improve enterprise performance while regulating product quality,that is,the sustainability of the policy.The results show that,China's agricultural product quality regulation policy can effectively improve firms'economic performance,and corporate reputation plays an mediate effect in the process of performance improvement.Further study found that the above effects are more significant in domestic market(vs.foreign market),economically developed regions(vs.less-developed regions)and large firms(vs.small firms).The findings of this paper provide an effective path for the China's ongoing agricultural development transformation from quantity expansion to quality promotion.
