Qualityof Employment in China of the New Era:Indicator Measurement,Source Decomposition and Evolution Analysis
Improvement of employment quality is not only an important cornerstone of high-quality economic development, but also an important way to continuously improve the results of people's livelihood and sharing development.Based on multiple perspectives to build an employment quality evaluation index system in the new era, this study measures the national and inter-provincial employment quality indexes in 2010 to 2018,and then analyzes the sources of regional differences and spatial convergence characteristics. We find that the overall level of employment quality in China,as well as in various dimensions and indicators, has steadily improved. The inter provincial employment quality index is clearly differentiated and presents a"pyramid"distribution structure, but the growth rate is faster in underdeveloped areas.Furthermore, the decomposition results of the sources of differences show that the differences in the development of employment quality across the country and the four major sectors continue to shrink, and the gap between the eastern region and other regions is relatively large, resulting in the spatial differences in employment quality mainly originating from regional differences. And differences in employment status, worker compensation, and social protection are key structural factors that lead to inter provincial differences in employment quality.Besides that, the results of spatial evolution analysis indicate that the development of employment quality among provinces exhibits spatial imbalance but tends to converge over time. There is a trend of evolution for"backward provinces"in employment quality to catch up with neighboring"advanced provinces".Therefore,we should strive to promote the construction of a comprehensive long-term mechanism for employment quality, implement regional development strategies according to local conditions, and promote the coordinated development of employment quality between provinces.
