The Income Increase and Catchup Effect of Rural Characteristic Industriesunder High Quality Development of Agricultural Industry——Evidence from China's Advantage Areas of Characteristic Agricultural Products
The high-quality development of the agricultural industry is a key path to broaden the channels for farmers to increase their income and accelerate the common prosperity of farmers and rural areas.The advantage area of agricultural products with Chinese characteristics is an important carrier to promote the structural reform of agricultural supply side,achieve high-quality development of agricultural industry and promote the development of rural industries with Chinese characteristics.This paper takes the national identification of"advantageous areas of agricultural products with Chinese characteristics"as a quasi-natural experiment,and uses the panel data of 1547 counties in 22 provinces in China from 2013 to 2020 to empirically test the income increasing effect and catch-up effect of rural characteristic industry development on rural residents'income at county level.The results show that the development of rural characteristic industries has a significant increase effect on the income of rural residents in counties,especially in non-grain producing areas and areas with good financing environment.The development of rural characteristic industries has a stronger effect on rural low-income groups,which can form a catch-up effect to help rural low-income groups catch up with middle and high income groups,and narrow the income gap among rural residents in counties.The development of rural characteristic industries may promote the income growth of county rural residents by improving agricultural operation income and promoting non-agricultural employment of rural labor force.Therefore,we should continue to cultivate and develop the advantageous areas of agricultural products with Chinese characteristics,rationally distribute the industries with rural characteristics,promote the high-quality development of agricultural industry,and provide industrial support for expanding the income channels of rural residents in counties and improving the income level of rural low-income groups.
