Is It Difficult for Liberal Arts Graduates to Find Jobs?——An Analysis on the Employment Quality of Liberal Arts Graduates from 32 Universities across the Country
Against the backdrop of the slowdown in the global economic growth rate, this study conducts an empirical analysis on the employment status, difficulties faced, and their causes among liberal arts graduates from 32 universities in China. It aims to reveal and provide countermeasures for solving the employment problems that hinder liberal arts graduates, such as the disconnection between the current talent cultivation mechanism for liberal arts and the market, the low applicability of knowledge, and the existence of cognitive biases in employment among graduates. The study finds that at present, the liberal arts graduates have a serious lack of confidence in employment;the conservatism in employment concepts coexists with overly high expectations;the existing employment service systems in universities can hardly meet the diverse employment needs of liberal arts graduates. All the above factors have led to an imbalance between supply and demand for liberal arts graduates in the job market. The study puts forward countermeasure suggestions from four aspects:the government should do a good job in the top-level design for liberal arts construction and promote the solid implementation of policies;universities should promote and implement the employment guarantee system that is compatible with liberal arts construction;enterprises should change their traditional employment concepts and cooperate with universities in educating students;students should take the initiative to seek job opportunities and improve their comprehensive personal abilities.
