Spatial Distribution and Values Analysis of Water-harnessing Deities in China
Water-harnessing deities are the products of China's Five Elements Theory and the thought of talisman.Their types include iron oxen,Pafu,weapons,towers and so on.The authors systematically sort out the number of water-harnessing deities in China and present their spatial distribution.The results show that the water-harnessing deities were mostly made in the Ming and Qing dynasties,and their spatial distribution in China shows the characteristics of more in the east,middle and less in the west.The area along the Grand Canal is the area with the densest distribution of water-harnessing deities.Water-harnessing deities contain the scientific values of engraving water level,anchoring pontoon bridge and making later generations know the ancient metal casting technology,and providing information for the study of history,providing inspiration for cultural innovation,and it is also a witness to the cultural exchange and integration among ethnic groups.In the future,we should make full use of the scientific values,historical and cultural values of the water-harnessing deities in order to serve the construction of local culture and practice the Cultural Power Strategy.
