A Historical Investigation of the Blessed Fields Inscriptions of Guanyinyan Temple and Temple Maintenance in Western Hunan of the Qing Dynasty
In the Qing Dynasty, the contents of the blessed fileds inscriptions of Guanyinyan Temple in Western Hunan were mostly about securing blessed fields, and have thus provided an important documentary basis for understanding the daily operation of Guanyinyan Temple in Western Hunan in the Qing Dynasty. The blessed fields were small in size, the management mechanism was simple and clumsy, the production mode was in a relatively primitive state of natural economy, and the overall financial resources are weak. The economy of blessed fields at Guanyinyan Temple was the result of the temple adapting to the specific natural geography, history and humanistic environment of Western Hunan. The economy of blessed fields was highly"self-reliant"and"self-maintaining",which had helped to avoid the vulnerability of the temple's economic basis. This was the fundamental reason why Buddhist temples could maintain continuous social adaptability and strong social participation and influence.
