Livelihood,Culture, and Tourism:A Study on the Traditional Livelihood and Changes of Hui People in Donglianhua Village,Weishan County
Donglianhua Village, known as a"Hui Ethnic Famous Village"on the Ancient Tea Horse Road between Yunnan and Tibet, boasts a prime geographical location and a long history. It is characterized by typical caravan culture, distinctive Islamic architecture, and traditional Hui residential culture. The Hui ancestors settled in Donglianhua Village during the Ming Dynasty and, based on their trade traditions, initiated caravan trading.By the Republican period, the caravan trade flourished, leading to economic prosperity and the emergence of prominent caravan leaders such as Ma Ruji and Ma Ruqi.Consequently, caravan trading became the primary livelihood for the villagers of Donglianhua. After the founding of the People's Republic of China,Donglianhua Village embarked on the socialist path, with the livelihood of Hui residents shifting primarily to agriculture, supplemented by household handicrafts and animal husbandry. The proportion of caravan transportation gradually diminished until it eventually disappeared. In the new era,Donglianhua Village successfully established itself as a 3A-level scenic area.Beyond traditional agricultural and animal husbandry livelihoods, the village has developed rural tourism, founded the Donglianhua Culinary Culture Tourism Entrepreneurship Park, and promoted"courtyard tourism economy"along with other tourism industries. The tourism development of Donglianhua Village provides valuable insights for the development of ethnic villages.
