Research on"Miao Tu"in China During the Republic of China
The"Miao Tu"of China refers to the illustrated records of the southwestern ethnic minorities in China,compiled by official or private efforts since the Ming and Qing dynasties.These records vividly present various aspects such as the appearance,clothing,geographical distribution,production and lifestyle,and customs of the southwestern ethnic minorities in China.As rare and valuable materials for anthropological and ethnological research,they hold significant academic value.During the Republic of China period,notable research achievements on the"Miao Tu"include Liu Xian's"A Brief Study of Miao Tu"and Lin Yaohua's"The Miao People of Guizhou."Both works emphasize scientific and accurate expression of the research content,primarily using straightforward narrative with limited theoretical depth.However,to some extent,they reflect the researchers'international perspective,integrating Chinese and Western scholarship,and their academic aspiration of"learning for practical application."These works can provide valuable insights for the currently burgeoning research on the"Miao Tu."
