Corrosion, scaling and microbiological risks associated with water reclaimation and reuse
Water resources shortage is becoming increasingly serious,as an important alternative water source, reclaimed water has attracted much attention for its distribution process associated with corrosion, scaling, and microbial risks. The status quo of reclaimed water reuse, pipeline corrosion, microbial risk and related control technologies were summarized.Based on the elucidation of the mechanism of electrochemistry and microbiological corrosion on the surface of steel components, characterization methods of corrosion products containing scanning electron microscope(SEM),energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS),X-ray diffraction(XRD),Raman spectroscopy(RMS)were reviewed. The corrosion control techniques of reclaimed water quality, adjusting water quality index, adding phosphate inhibitor and disinfectant were introduced. In terms of the microbial risk of reclaimed water reuse, although the addition of disinfectants can effectively control the traditional fecal indicators and has certain removal effects on pathogenic bacteria and viruses, the potential risks of drug-resistant bacteria and resistance genes still need to be further studied.
