Polar stereographic projection characteristics and using method of transverse coordinate system in polar regions
According to the requirements of transverse coordinate system in conjunction with arctic nautical charts in polar regions,projection characteristics and using method of transverse coordinate system on polar stereographic projection arctic nautical charts were systematically studied.Firstly,formulas of transverse meridian and parallel lines as well as transverse meridian convergence angle were deduced from transverse coordinate system's definition and polar stereographic projection formu-las.Secondly,according to nautical plotting requirements of arctic nautical charts as well as the sheet size and type,the geometric features of transverse meridian and parallel lines and the distribution characteristics of transverse meridian convergence angle on a single arctic nautical chart sheet were quantitatively analyzed.And then the using methods of transverse coordinate system projection grid and transverse meridian convergence angle were presented on polar stereographic projection nautical charts.Finally,transformation formulas among transverse course,true course and grid course were presented based on the geometry relationships of three coordinate systems and the mediating effect of transverse meridian convergence angle.The results of the research provide a preliminary usage scenario of transverse coordinate system on polar stereographic projection arctic nautical charts,and will serve as references for the subsequent compilation and using of arctic nautical charts as well the development of ECDIS-Polar.
