Small Rural Water Sources' Contamination by Heavy Metals in Hubei Province
The continuous rapid development of urbanization and industrialization promotes economic growth,on the other hand,it also brings detriment to the rural ecological environment, especially water environment. The contradiction between water pollution and water resource demand is increasingly prominent in rural area and turns to be more and more prominent, people who drink unsafe water in rural areas still make up a considerable proportion of the whole population.Unsafe drinking water sources in rural areas of Hubei Province mainly include small and medium-sized rivers, lakes and the nearby ditches, wells, etc. These small-scale surface water or ground water are usually close to rural living areas, agricultural areas, and even township enterprises, and drinking water sources suffers from various pollution. The main indicators of water pollution in addition to ammonia nitrogen, total phosphorus and permanganate index, also include cadmium (Cd),arsenic (As),copper (Cu),lead (Pb),mercury (Hg),chromium (Cr),and other heavy metals. This paper focuses on small water sources in rural areas of Hubei Province, and reviews heavy metal contamination of a part of them, providing data support for the safety control of small rural water sources.
