Abstract
This article explores two important place names in the maritime geography of the Western Age of Discovery,namely"Chabaqueo"and"Swatow".These two names are closely relat-ed to Fujian Province,but they have been misinterpreted and mistranslated in history.This article attempts to clarify these misunderstandings and explore the origins and meanings of these names.In the European maritime geography concept,"Chabaqueo"refers to Zhaoan Bay,while"Swatow"re-fers to"Zhangzhou porcelain"exported through Sandu.These names had far-reaching impacts on the history,culture,and foreign relations of Fujian Province and are still frequently found in histor-ical research.
