There are three types of information about China in the Boxer Codex, namely the overseas activities of China, the relations between China and its neighbouring countries in Asia, and the direct records about China, including relevant images. The Codex contains both true and false information about China, but most of it is true. The recording of the information about China in the Codex may have been influenced by three factors:the Spanish rulers'order to collect new information about the region,China's great influence in Asia, and the Western colonialists'am-bitions in China. The diverse Chinese information in the Codex might have come from different sources, reflecting the function of the Spanish Philippines as a place for information collection. The information is not only a record of facts,it also contains interpretation from the Western per-spective.Thus it represents the cross-ocean transmission of Chinese knowledge at the end of the 16th century.
