The environmental and economic effect of first flush collection in chemical industrial enterprises
Changes in water quality compliance rate at rainwater outfall and the rainwater management cost in chemical industrial enterprises were simulated under different first flush collection depth scenarios, based on the monitoring data of the rainwater runoff from 57 rainfall-runoff events in a typical chemical industrial enterprise in Shanghai Chemical Industrial Park. The analysis revealed that after collecting an initial rainfall depth of 20 mm,the expected amount of polluted rainwater decreased by 32%,the frequency of the water quality non-compliance decreased by 72%,and the rainwater management cost decreased by 32%.Therefore,effective first flush control measures can significantly reduce the rainwater management cost and mitigate water pollution risks for chemical industrial enterprises.
