Current status, challenges and conservation of biodiversity in the Yongjiang River basin
The biodiversity of the Yongjiang River basin(including the Fenghuajiang River, the Yaojiang River and the Yongjiang River main stream)was investigated and evaluated in spring and autumn.According to the survey results, there were 22 fish species of 3 orders,21 zooplankton species of 5 orders,113 phytoplankton species of 16 orders and 44 benthic animal species of 12 orders in the Yongjiang River basin. The biodiversity of each group was affected by seasons obviously, but had little difference among rivers. The biodiversity of the Yongjiang River basin was evaluated using the Me Naughton dominance index,Shannon-Winner diversity index,Pielou evenness index, and Margalef species richness index. The species groups were even in general.Phytoplankton and benthic animals were more abundant than fish and zooplanton.Fish, phytoplankton and benthic animals were relatively abundant with light disturbance, while zooplankton were moderately abundant with moderate disturbance. The species composition and biodiversity of the Yongjiang River basin had seasonal variation, because the water quality had seasonal variation.Sewage outlet numbers were negatively correlated with biodiversity. Therefore,it was suggested to take more measures to protect the biodiversity, such as improving water quality, mending habitats of plants and animals, and reducing human activity influence.
