Evaluation of volatile organic compounds emission reduction benefits for coating substitution and end-of-pipe treatment of typical coating industries in Jiangsu Province
Substitution of clean coatings and implementation of end-of-pipe treatment are the important ways to reduce emissions of volatile organic compounds(VOCs)in industrial coating industry. The reduction benefits of coating substitution and end-of-pipe treatment were analyzed based on typical coating industries survey in Jiangsu Province. It was found that VOCs content in coatings decreased dramatically after replacing solvent-based coating by water-based coating. And aromatic hydrocarbons, which contributed to ozone mostly, decreased dramatically, too. The average removal efficiency for non-methane hydrocarbon(NMHC)by the end-of-pipe treatments reached 60.2%.Activated carbon adsorption were the most commonly used technique. However, combustion should be the future technique because it had higher removal efficiency and better aromatic hydrocarbons elimination. In all,the emission reduction of water-based coating substitution for solvent-based coating was significant. It is urgent to further promote the application of end-of-pipe treatment facilities for VOCs,and combustion technique should replace activated carbon adsorption technique step by step.
