Distribution characteristics and cause analysis of manganese in groundwater in a rural area downstream of Qinhe River
By analyzing the manganese content of 21 groups of shallow irrigation well water, deep concentrated drinking well water and soil around wellheads in a rural area downstream of Qinhe River, the sources, distribution characteristics and causes of manganese in groundwater were revealed, and the health risks of manganese contamination of groundwater were evaluated. The results showed that the manganese content in river and soil in the study area was normal. The manganese content of shallow irrigation well water and deep concentrated drinking well water were 0.001-0.391 mg/L and 0.003-0.252 mg/L respectively, with point exceedance rates of 33.33%and 76.19%.Correlation analysis showed that manganese content in groundwater was mainly affected by redox potential(Eh)which had significant inverse correlation with manganese content. The field-forming geology in the study area consisted of organic matter-rich Yellow River alluvium,sub-clay,and fine sand layer. The slow flow of water in the aquifer presented a reducing environment resulting in a large amount of manganese being dissolved from the sedimentary layer by the form of Mn2+.The results of the health risk evaluation showed that the non-carcinogenic risk index of manganese in deep concentrated drinking well water was 0.000 8-0.065 9,which did not pose a risk to human health.
