Research on adsorbing low concentration Pb2+ in water by Na2S · HNO3 modified activated carbon
Activated carbon was modified using reflux boiling and microwave roasting. The changes of surface functional groups between activated carbon both before and after modification were analysed by Boehm titration, thermogravimetry (TG) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR). The result of Boehm titration showed that the total acidity and the number of carboxyl and lactones increased after modification. A number of weight loss peaks in TG curves illustrated the increase of oxygen groups on the surface of modified activated carbon. The new peaks among 500~ 720 cm -1 in FT-IR spectra indicated the appearance of S-S, C-S bonds on the surface of modified activated carbon. The final result showed that under the condition of Pb2+ 1 mg/L, adsorption time 2 h, 20 ℃ and pH = 6,5% Na2S · (1 + 9)HNO3 modified activated carbon(4 g carbon, 1 L solution), the removal rate of Pb2+ could reach 94.46%.
