Water quality analysis of Qingcaosha reservoir water after treatment with carbon dioxide and advanced treatment processes
Objective To know the improvement of water quality in Qingcaosha reservoir after the transformation of conventional treatment processes to carbon dioxide(CO2)enhanced advanced treatment processes and CO2 enhanced conventional treatment processes. Methods From 2020 to 2023,two centralized water supply units in Pudong New Area,Shanghai, were chosen for the study. The conventional treatment processes were transformed into CO2 enhanced advanced treatment processes and CO2 enhanced conventional treatment processes, respectively. The water samples were collected monthly before and after the transformation for testing. Results Compared with before the transformation, after the transformation to CO2 enhanced advanced treatment processes, the levels of oxygen consumption, aluminum, turbidity, chloroform, dichlorobromomethane and trihalomethanes in the finished water were significantly lower, while the fluoride level was higher(P<0.05).After the transformation to CO2 enhanced conventional treatment processes, the turbidity level in the finished water was lower, while the fluoride level was higher, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).The dosage of coagulant in both water treatment processes after transformation was significantly lower than before(P<0.05).For the two centralized water supply units, turbidity and coagulant dosage were positively correlated(P<0.05).The finished water from the two centralized water supply units before and after transformation met the standards. Conclusion The transformation of centralized water supply units to CO2 enhanced advanced treatment processes and CO2 enhanced conventional treatment processes can achieve dual improvements in economic and environmental benefits.
