Effect of probiotics combined with nasojejunal nutritional support on nutritional status of patients with head and neck cancers during concurrent chemoradiotherapy
Objective To investigate the effect of probiotics combined with nasojejunal nutritional support on nutritional status of patients with head and neck cancers during concurrent chemoradiotherapy. Methods A total of 80 patients with head and neck tumors who received concurrent chemoradiotherapy in Nantong Tumor Hospital from July 2020 to July 2022 were selected as research objects. They were divided into observation group(probiotics combined with nasojejunal nutritional support,n=40)and control group(nasojejunal nutritional support,n=40)according to the random number table method. The treatment effect, side effects and the score of European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer quality of life questionnaire(EORTC QLQ-C30)after intervention were compared between the two groups. The levels of T lymphocyte subsets(CD3+,CD4+,CD4+/CD8+),serum albumin(ALB),prealbumin(PA)and hemoglobin(HB)before and after intervention were compared between the two groups. Results There was no significant difference in objective response rate between the two groups(P>0.05).CD3+,CD4+and CD4+/CD8+after intervention were significantly higher than those before intervention in both groups, and these indexes in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group after intervention(all P<0.05).There were no significant differences in ALB,PA or HB in the observation group before and after intervention(all P>0.05).The ALB,PA and HB in the control group after intervention were significantly lower than those before intervention, and these indexes in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group after intervention(all P<0.05).The total incidence of side effects in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group(P<0.05).After intervention, the scores of EORTC QLQ-C30 in the observation group were superior to those in the control group(all P<0.05).Conclusion Probiotics combined with nasojejunal nutritional support can improve the nutritional status of patients with head and neck cancers during concurrent chemoradiotherapy.
