Impact Test and Numerical Simulation Analysis of T-type Edge Strips in Composite Materials
The edge impact tests on T800/X850 composite T-type edge strips was conducted.A real size drop hammer model was established by using software Abaqus to simulate the edge impact test. The Puck criterion was used as the damage criterion for composite materials, and the interlayer bonding elements were inserted to simulate delamination damage. The results showed that the edge impact damage mainly consisted of matrix damage, interface delamination, and panel indentation damage.Comparing the simulation results with the experimental results, the edge impact process, failure mode, and dynamic response obtained from finite element simulation have good consistency with the experimental results.By comparing the simulation results of different thickness and different impact energies,it was found that under the same impact energy, thinner composite structures would occur more extensive damage and greater degree of damage propagation under edge impact.
