Status quo and influencing factors of self-advocacy ability in patients with postoperative chemotherapy for breast cancer
Objective To investigate the current status of self-advocacy ability in postoperative chemotherapy patients with breast cancer and analyze its influencing factors.Methods The general information questionnaire,female self advocacy in cancer survivorship,Chi-nese version of the M.D.Anderson symptom inventory,social support revalued scale,breast cancer survivors self-efficacy scale,and hospital anxiety and depression scale were used to investigate 200 postoperative chemotherapy patients with breast cancer at a oncology hospital in Ningxia.Results The total score of self-advocacy in patients with postoperative chemotherapy for breast cancer was(65.48±7.05).The scores of symptom burden,social support and self-efficacy were all positively correlated with the patients'self-advocacy scores after postoper-ative chemotherapy for breast cancer(P<0.01 or P<0.05).Multiple linear regression analysis indicated that educational level,nausea,forget-fulness,symptoms interfering with work(including household labor),and self-efficacy were influencing factors for self-advocacy in post-op-erative chemotherapy patients with breast cancer(P<0.01 or P<0.05).Conclusion The ability of self-advocacy in patients with postopera-tive chemotherapy for breast cancer needs to be improved in general,and healthcare professionals should pay great attention to the self-advo-cacy ability of postoperative chemotherapy patients with breast cancer,especially those with a low level of literacy,and actively help patients to improve their sense of self-efficacy and make efforts to alleviate nausea,amnesia and other symptoms,so as to enhance the self-advocacy a-bility of patients,and to provide strong support for the improvement of their prognosis and the quality of their survival.
