Mediating effect of sedentary behavior on the relationship between falls efficacy and life-space mobility in elderly diabetics in the community
Objective To explore the falls efficacy on life-space mobility(LSM)in elderly community-dwelling diabetics and the me-diating role between sedentary behavior(SB)and LSM.Methods A total of 310 elderly diabetics from 3 communities in Hefei through con-venient sampling were investigated by the general information questionnaire,Modified Falls Efficacy Scale,International Physical Activity Questionnaire Short Form,Chinese version of the Life Space Assessment,Results The falls efficacy score was(7.80±1.12),with a sedenta-ry time of(6.61±0.84)hours per day,and LSM score was(60.17±12.55).The falls efficacy(B=3.914,P<0.01)and SB(B=-5.204,P<0.01)were independent influences on LSM,which together explained 13.6%of the variance. The mediating effect of SB between falls effi-cacy and LSM was 3.081,accounting for 37.39%of the total effect. Conclusion The LSM of elderly diabetic patients in community needs to be improved, and falls efficacy plays a partial mediating effect between their SB and LSM.Community caregivers should actively implement in-tervention strategies based on the pathways affecting fall efficacy in elderly diabetics,to increase the level of spatial mobility, and thus to pro-mote physical activity and improve quality of life.
