Cluster analysis of personality characteristics in undergraduate nursing students during internship and relation to professional identity
Objective To identify the personality types of undergraduate nursing interns through cluster analysis and to analyze their im-pact on professional identity.Methods The Professional Identity Questionnaire for Nursing Student(PIQNS)and the Big Five Inventory(BFI)were administered to 293 undergraduate nursing interns from three hospitals in Shandong Province,from October to December 2021 using convenience sampling methods.Results There were 3 personality types among undergraduate nursing interns,including resilient type(17.06%),distressed type(45.05%)and open type(37.88%).Regression analysis showed that the distressed type was a protective factor for undergraduate nursing interns'sense of professional identity compared to the open type(P<0.01),while the distressed type was a risk factor for it(P<0.01).Conclusion There are three personality types of undergraduate nursing interns,including resilient type,distressed type and open type,and the distressed type demonstrates a lower sense of professional identify,which deserves attention from nursing managers.
