Potential profile analysis of work engagement characteristics of emergency nurses and their relationship with subjective well-being
Objective To explore potential categories of work engagement in emergency department nurses and to clarify the relationship between work engagement and subjective well-being in emergency department nurses.Methods A convenience sampling method was used to select 272 nursing staff from the emergency departments of 12 tertiary-level A hospitals in Xi'an from January to March 2023 as subjects,and a general information questionnaire,a work engagement scale,and a subjective well-being scale were used as the investigative tools to conduct a categorical analysis of the work engagement status of nurses in the emergency departments,and to explore the relationship between the level of work engagement and subjective well-being.Results The work engagement characteristics of emergency department nurses could be classified into three categories,including high work engagement group,medium work engagement group and low work engagement group,which accounted for 62.13%,25.00%and 12.87%respectively.The subjective well-being of emergency nurses was positively correlated with work engagement(P<0.01),and the differences in the subjective well-being scores,relaxation and tension dimensions,melancholy or pleasant state of mind di-mensions,control of emotions and behavior dimensions,worry about health dimensions,and satisfaction and interest in life dimensions of nurses in different work engagement categories were statistically significant,with higher levels of individual subjective well-being being associated with higher work engagement(P<0.05).Conclusion Heterogeneity exists in the work engagement status of emergency department nurses.The po-tential categories of work engagement has a significant impact on the subjective well-being of nursing staff.Emergency department nurses should give full play to their mobility and actively engage in clinical nursing.Nursing managers should promptly understand nurses'work status and diffi-culties to safeguard their work in the heavy clinical practice,so that nursing staff can maximize the harvest of well-being in their work.
