Mediating effects of demoralization between pelvic floor dysfunction and quality of life in patients undergoing postoperative chemo-radiotherapy for cervical cancer
Objective To explore the mediating effect of demoralization between pelvic floor dysfunction and quality of life in patients undergoing postoperative chemoradiotherapy for cervical cancer. Methods Using convenience sampling method,204 patients with postopera-tive chemoradiotherapy for cervical cancer in a third-grade class-A hospital in Xinjiang from January to April 2022 were selected for the study and questionnaires were administered to them using general information questionnaire,Pelvic Floor Distress Inventory-Short Form,Short Demoralization Scale, and Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy Generic Scale. Results The patients had a total pelvic floor dysfunction score of 29.17(21.09,38.54),a total demoralization score of 15.00(9.00,18.00)and a total quality of life score of(69.24±7.20).Pelvic floor dysfunction was negatively correlated with quality of life(r=-0.736,P<0.01),and positively correlated with demoralization(r=0.714,P<0.01),while demoralization was negatively correlated with quality of life(r=-0.661,P<0.01).Demoralization partially mediated the rela-tionship between pelvic floor dysfunction and quality of life, with a mediating effect value of-0.127,accounting for 37.35%of the total effect size. Conclusion The quality of life of patients with postoperative radiotherapy and chemotherapy for cervical cancer is at a moderate level.Demoralization partially mediates the relationship between pelvic floor dysfunction and quality of life, and healthcare professionals can inter-vene to improve pelvic floor dysfunction and improve patients'quality of life according to the pathways affecting demoralization.
