The impact of role overload and career calling on professional quality of life of ICU nurses
Objective To understand the current status of role overload,career calling and professional quality of life of ICU nurses,and to explore the effects of them.Methods By using convenience sampling method,a total of 180 ICU nurses in a tertiary hospital in Ji'nan City were studied,and General Information Questionnaire,Role Overload Scale,Career Calling Scale,and Professional Quality of Life Scale were used to investigate the situation.Results The ICU nurses'role overload score was(15.11±4.41),the career calling score was(44.46±7.84)and professional quality of life score was(85.84±8.21).ICU nurse role overload was positively correlated with burnout(r=0.205,P<0.001),and negatively correlated with career calling(r=-0.394,P<0.001).ICU nurses'career calling was positively correlated with compassionate satisfaction(r=0.496,P<0.001),and negatively correlated with secondary trauma and burnout(r1=-0.326,r2=-0.439,P<0.001).ICU nurses'career calling had a direct effect on their professional quality of life,and role overload indirectly affected professional quality of life with career calling as a mediating variable.Conclusion The ICU nurses'role overload is in the medium level,the career calling level is in the lower middle level,and the professional quality of life is in the medium level.During the intervention,nursing managers should enhance their career calling and improve their professional life quality by reducing the role overload of ICU nurses.
