Research on elderly nursing employment preference of undergraduate nursing students under the background of healthy aging-based on discrete choice experimental analysis
Objective To investigate the employment preference of undergraduate nursing students in geriatric nursing, and to provide reference for the allocation of nursing staff in geriatric nursing institutions, the improvement of geriatric nursing employment management and policy formulation. Methods A total of 337 undergraduate nursing students from a medical college in Tianjin were selected as the survey sub-jects.The discrete choice experiment was used to design the questionnaire on the employment preference of undergraduate nursing students in geriatric nursing, and the related job attributes and levels were quantified to estimate their declarative preferences, payment willingness and the marginal value of each attribute. Results The four attributes(monthly income, working environment, career development opportunities,organ-ization)included in the results were statistically significant.Undergraduate nursing students were most concerned about the non-economic at-tribute of working environment(β=1.278,P<0.001).Career development opportunities were the key factors affecting the employment prefer-ence of geriatric nursing(β=1.261,P<0.001)and the staffing had little effect on the preference(β=0.699,P<0.001).Conclusion Policy makers can reform the elderly nursing human resource policy from the aspects of increasing income, improving the working environment,im-proving hardware facilities, increasing opportunities for further study and career development, and providing staffing,so as to improve the re-cruitment rate and professional sense of belonging of undergraduate nursing students, stabilize the elderly nursing team, and promote the con-struction of elderly nursing talents.
