Optimization of Signal Timing at Four-Phase Intersections Considering the Safety of Non-Motorized Traffic at the End of Green Light
In order to ensure the safety of non-motorized vehicles entering the intersection at the end of the green light because of their slow speed, the parameters of green light interval time, minimum green light time and lane saturation flow in the traditional Web-ster's signal timing calculation method are optimized, and the calculation formulas of the corresponding parameters are established;and a green light advance and cut-off timing scheme for non-motorized vehicles coordinated with the green light interval time is con-structed.A typical four-phase intersection between Tongjing North Road and Jinmen Road in Suzhou City is selected as an example for analysis, and the intersection signal timing scheme is optimized, with vehicle delay as an indirect safety evaluation index. The results show that the average delay of motor vehicles at the intersection is reduced by2.2%,and the average delay of non-motor vehicles is reduced by 4.7%,which indirectly indicates that the machine-non-motor conflicts are reduced and the safety of non-motor vehicle traffic at the end of the green light is effectively improved, which verifies the rationality of the optimization scheme.
