Performance Analysis of Strengthening Effect of PET Plastic Waste on Subgrade Soil under Freeze-thaw Cycle
In order to improve the rock and soil properties and stability of expansive soil as roadbed material. The effect of Polyethylene Terephthalate(PET)plastics on the strength of expansive clay was studied under freeze-thaw cycles.Through mechanical tests such as triaxial repeated loading test and unconfined compressive strength test, the mechanical properties of expansive soil with different content of PET plastics(0%,1%,2%and 3%of dry soil mass)under freeze-thaw cycles(0,3,6 and 9 times)were studied. The results show that:(1)The best moisture content and the maximum dry density of expansive soil can be reduced by adding PET plastic into expansive soil.(2)Compared with the samples without PET,the strength and stiffness of expansive soil can be improved by adding 1%PET,and the size and depth of crack can be reduced.(3)Samples incorporated with PET plastic showed more ability to resist the negative effect of the freeza-thaw cycle compared to samples without PET.
