In order to investigate the effects of lavender essential oil on depression recovery of prenatal stressed offspring rats and its potential mechanism, the study establishes a prenatal restraint stress model with SD rats;divides postpartum male offspring rats into control group(CON group),prenatal stress group(PS group),lavender essential oil group(PS-LEO group)and normal saline group;and evaluates the recovery of depression-like behavior in offspring rats with sucrose preference test and forced swimming test. The study evaluates the changes in protein levels and mRNA levels of glutamate-related receptors mGluR1,mGluR5 and EAAT2 with Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)and real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR.The results of sucrose preference experiment and forced swimming experiment show that lavender oil improved depression-like behavior in prenatal stressed rats.ELISA and PCR results show that mGluR1 and mGluR5 protein levels are significantly decreased after lavender essential oil intervention, and EAAT2 protein levels in hippocampus are significantly increased(P<0.05).This indicates that lavender essential oil can improve the depression-like behavior of prenatal stressed rats by regulating the levels of mGluR1,mGluR5 and EAAT2.
