In the surrounding environment, rare earth elements can enter the human body from plants, animals, and water and air, etc.Excessive rare earth elements into the human body will increase the risk of cancer. The analysis of the contents and characteristics of rare earth elements around the mining area can provide reference for the ecological environment of the mining area. The study measures and analyzes the concentrations of elements La,Ce,Pr,Nd,Sm,Eu,Gd,Tb,Dy,Ho,Er,Tm,Yb,Lu and Y in the soil around a mining area in Hunan with single factor index method and Nemero comprehensive pollution index method. The data show that the average content of rare earth in the soil samples is 261.63 mg/kg,which is 1.60 times of the Hunan soil background value of 163.86 mg/kg,indicating that there is rare earth enrichment around the mining area. The results of single factor index show that the single pollution index of each rare earth element present different levels of pollution. The comprehensive pollution result of Nemero show that 28%of the samples are moderately polluted, and the rest are mildly polluted, indicating that human activities, such as early mining in the mining area has brought deep rare earth elements to the surface for enrichment. There is some pollution, which needs special attention.
