Red mud is a strong alkaline solid waste produced by alumina extraction from bauxite.Sodium removal from red mud is the key to pollution control and resource reuse of red mud.An experimental study on the condition of sodium removal from red mud is carried out by preparing artificial seawater with magnesium chloride. The results show that under the conditions of a constant liquid-solid ratio of 100 mL/g and 0.64%magnesium chloride concentration in simulated seawater, the removal rate of sodium from red mud reaches 24.26%at a temperature of 50 ℃ and a leaching time of 10 h.In addition, the effect of sodium removal was significantly improved by using artificial seawater to elute red mud repeatedly. This provides a way for pollution control and resource development and utilization of red mud.A good experimental condition for sodium removal of red mud by artificial simulated seawater is obtained, and artificial simulated seawater is feasible to remove sodium from red mud.
