Analysis of 35 Cases of Surgical Treatment of Gastrointestinal Foreign Bodies in Children
Objective:To retrospectively analyze the clinical data of children with gastrointestinal foreign bodies requiring surgical treatment, and to summarize their clinical diagnosis and treatment experience. Methods:Data of 35 pediatric patients with foreign bodies in the digestive tract who underwent surgical treatment at the hospital from January 2016 to December 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. Results:Of all the cases,28(80%)were males and 7(20%)were females. The age range was from 11 months to 9 years.Clinical symptoms were mainly abdominal pain and crying(19 cases,54.29%)and vomiting(17 cases,48.57%).X-ray examination was performed in all patients, suggesting that 33 cases(94.29%)were positive for GI foreign bodies, including 30 cases of multiple magnetic beads and 3 cases of sharp metal foreign bodies,2 cases(5.71%)were negative for GI foreign bodies, including 1 case of blistering hairballs and 1 case of date seeds.A total of 13 children underwent ultrasonography, suggesting positive GI foreign bodies in 10 cases(76.92%).All children were treated surgically and followed up for 3-6 months after surgery, with 5 cases of complications of GI obstruction. Conclusion:Magnetic beads and sharp metal foreign bodies are common types of foreign bodies in the GI tract of children that require surgical treatment.Abdominal pain, crying and vomiting are the main symptoms of this type of disease, and foreign bodies in the GI tract of children can lead to more serious complications, especially GI complications that are more likely to be caused by multiple magnetic beads, which need to be the focus of attention of parents and pediatricians.
