Observation on the Effect of Applying Fluoride Protective Varnish to Assist Oral Hygiene Promotion on the Prevention of Baby Tooth Caries in 5-year-old Children in Suzhou City
Objective:To investigate the clinical effect of topical application of fluoride protective varnish in conjunction with oral hygiene education on the prevention of dental caries in children's deciduous teeth.Methods:580 cases of 5-year-old caries-free children in one district and four counties of Suzhou from July to August 2018 were selected as the study subjects,and were randomly divided into the observation group and the control group,with 290 cases in each group.Children in the observation group were coated with fluoride protective varnish to assist oral hygiene education,and children in the control group were given basic oral health care prevention and control.All the examined children were visited twice in the 1st and 2nd year after the treatment,and the caries rate and oral hygiene behaviors of the children were compared and analyzed.Results:In the 1st and 2nd year after treatment,the caries rates of children in the observation group was 4.21%and 5.71%respectively,which were lower than 23.69%and 32.61%of the control group,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).The difference in the number of times and duration of tooth brushing between the two groups of children was statistically significant(x2=11.834,P<0.05;x2=7.836,P<0.05).Conclusion:The application of fluoride protective varnish together with oral hygiene education can effectively prevent the occurrence of deciduous tooth caries.and significantly reduce the rate of caries,which is conducive to children's dental health.
