Study of ICU Nurses'Knowledge,Attitude and Practice Regarding Intolerance to Enteral Nutritional Feedings
Objective:To investigate ICU nurses'knowledge, attitude, and practice about enteral nutrition feeding intolerance in critically ill and critically ill patients, and to explore the ICU nurses'scores on knowledge, attitudes, and practice about enteral nutrition feeding intolerance. Methods:A convenience sampling method was used to survey 219 ICU nurses in three tertiary hospitals in Haikou City on their knowledge and beliefs about enteral nutrition tolerance, and to compare the scores of their knowledge and beliefs on each dimension. Results:The mean scores of knowledge, belief and behavior of ICU nurses regarding intolerance to enteral nutritional feeding were(14.10±4.25),(25.25±5.27)and(50.28±9.38),respectively,with higher scores for knowledge, and attitudes and practice to be improved. There was statistically significant difference in the knowledge attitudes and practice scores of enteral nutrition tolerance among ICU nurses with different job titles, whether they were members of the enteral nutrition team or not,and whether they had studied enteral nutrition or not(P<0.05).Conclusion:The ICU nurses'knowledge score level of enteral nutrition tolerance is high, but the scores of attitude and behavioral aspects need to be improved, suggesting that the department should strengthen the relevant training, and pay attention to the assessment of enteral nutrition,in order to improve the ICU nurses'level of knowledge, attitudes, and pratice related to enteral nutrition tolerance in critically ill patients;and reduce the incidence of feeding intolerance in critically ill patients.
